What is my favorite thing to do for my birthday? Go on a trip! In years past we've done Westwater River, Muddy River and this year we invited friends to celebrate with us at the Bear Lake cabin!
The day of my birthday, it was just me and Mikey and we didn't make any particular plans. We drove down the the marina to check out the sailboats since Mikey is trying to talk me into buying a small one. We walked past a gruff looking guy and this is how the conversation went:
Guy: "What are you guys doing?"
Mikey: "Oh, just checking out the sailboats."
Guy: "Which one is yours?"
Mikey: "We don't have one, but hope to someday."
Guy: "Well, do you want to go out on one today?"
We look at each other and both say, "Yeah!"
So, we ran back to the cabin to drop off Stanley and grab some sunblock and beer, met the guy, Curtis 30 minutes later back at the marina, and he took us out on his 32 foot sailboat, The Tally II for the next 4 hours!
Though gruff, Curtis was a great teacher and let us both take turns at the steering wheel and tacking (turning the boat by adjusting the sails). It was an amazing birthday surprise and maybe someday, we'll get our own little sailboat...

The birthday girl, "Look, no rope!"
Just thanking my boat driver for a great birthday!
Ness and Andy finally showed up!

This was Russ and Sara's first trip (of many, hopefully) to the cabin.
We drove (very slowly thanks to Russ' driving) up to Bloomington Lake. Some of the crazier people in the group slid down the snow into the very chilly lake.
One more fantastic birthday trip in the books! Cheers to the last year of my twenties!!!
